Mobile Marketing Case Study: MedicAlert

Introduction
As a trusted third party keeper of comprehensive personal health information, MedicAlert provides a complete saving system, built around a repository of health information that enables members to manage their personal health records while maintaining security, privacy and confidentiality.
The MedicAlert repository can connect to and provide critical medical information between patients, providers and first responders 24 hours a day anywhere in South Africa.
Winner of the GraphicMail mobile campaign competition
GraphicMail called for non-profit candidates to submit a mobile marketing concept that they thought would best benefit their organization. This could have been a short survey, a feedback form or poll, content they wanted to share, a call for sponsorship or a promotion for a specific event. These NPOs also had to tell GraphicMail more about their mission and why they believe that reaching their contacts via mobile marketing would enhance their operations and help achieve their cause.
This was when MedicAlert sent us a thought-provoking campaign idea which secured them a position as one of the winning entrants.

The Challenge
GraphicMail's mobile marketing tools have been designed to help NPOs stay in touch with their donors, sponsors and members all the better. We went on to create the mobile campaigns for MedicAlert and send it to up to 5000 of their individual subscribers free of charge. Further training on the creation of mobile campaigns is being provided MedicAlert and its staff, along with instructions and insights on how to interpret and utilize reports and direct user feedback to advance their ongoing mobile marketing promotions.
MedicAlert launched the UNCEDO Project that aims to provide membership to vulnerable children and orphans - to respond to the crisis of providing healthcare necessities to underprivileged children. MedicAlert will maintain medical records and ensure that Medical staff, in the case of emergency, will have access to the information needed to provide the best care for these children.
The project's mission is to raise funds and awareness of the many vulnerable children that are in South Africa and of the support they need in the time of medical emergencies. Their target market is the 29 000 members who have provided them with mobile telephone numbers. The members are all using their products to make medical staff aware of the over 200 conditions and allergies that may influence what medical treatment they will receive – which is vital data in an emergency situation.
MedicAlert's plan was to use our mobile marketing tools to appeal to their subscribers to make a once-off R200 donation to the UNCEDO Project; and receive a special diary in return to signify their generous contribution.
The Results
- After the mobile campaign was launched, MedicAlert received donations from about 200 people who participated in the giving program and have 200 new friends of the Foundation.
- Due to the bulk SMS send the MedicAlert website received 2000 more hits and is now getting 13 000 more hits per month, which has increased their business activity on-line.
MedicAlert has been using the GraphicMail email marketing platform since earlier days to send out all their newsletters to over 23 000 members. Having launched their email communication to members in December 2010, they were overwhelmed by receiving over 9 000 hits to their website in the first month as a result.
